2010 Ford Shelby GT500 - 540 Horsepower Muscle Car
The 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 was officially unveiled at Detroit 2009. This modern muscle car takes the recent Mustang redesign and injects it with all that is Shelby to produce a super powered Mustang that should best the 2009 GT500 in nearly every respect. Most notable power gains and an architecture built from the extreme Shelby GT500KR (King of the Road edition), the 2010 car distances itself from 2010 Mustangs to an even greater degree than last year’s car.
The 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 packs 540 horsepower 5.4-liter V8 - this new Shelby is more powerful than it’s predecessor by 40 horses. The supercharged and intercooled V8, featuring dual overhead cams, redlines at 6,250 rpm. It also packs a sticker price of $45,000 which obviously prices it out of the range of the average consumer but cheaper than the $300,000 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500-K Red Convertible we previously featured.

Notes from the 2009 Detroit Auto Show 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 :
What really separates the GT500 from the KR is grip. The special Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires, on forged alloy 19-in. wheels, can’t equal the near-R-compound stickies found on the KR. And if you opt for the convertible you get only 18-in. wheels. Still, Ford says the GT500 has better handling and refinement than the previous model. The snake emblem on the grille has been moved to the passenger side. This allows better airflow to the new cold-air intake on the driver’s. The 2010 Shelby GT500 hits the market in spring.

Other features and enhancements include AdvanceTrac stability control, dual stage front air bags, side-impact air bags, 911 Assist, Ford SYNC, a constantly updated Vehicle Health Report (VHR) and an Ambient Lighting System with MyColor. Voice-activated navigation with Sirius Travel Link is optional.

I want one of these so bad and I think under $50k is a steal for one of these.

The 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500 is built like they used to be, or rather is an updated, but true-to-its-name muscle car. With a supercharged V8 pulsating under its hood, you’ll either collect speeding tickets or pay for race track time to truly test its limits.

How did they ever get it so wrong? Solid rear axle? Why Ford? If you want independent rear suspension, you have to go back to the 2005 Terminator series Cobra…

Underpowered compared to the electrics, and the sheet-metal 1930’s technologies body has to go! Replace the antiquated technologies with carbon fiber and polymer composites for light weight and greater strength, or at least: go with 1950’s aircraft aluminum construction for light weight, and more flexible curves! Get rid of the 1930’s hydraulics, and go drive by wire, and re-gererative braking, computer controlled of course, and bring theis anachronism up to date in your next re-build! Styling was restricted by sheetmetal possibilities, but nice in a kind of unaerodynamic, primitive way!Computer controlled four motor/ wheel drive with traction control would be nice too! This is the 21 Century! We have new technologies see “Tesla” here on the net for an example!
